Brooklyn Nets big man Nic Claxton has been handed a one-game suspension without pay for accumulating his sixth Flagrant Foul point, as announced by the league in a press release.
Before Monday’s game against the Washington Wizards, Claxton had already accumulated five Flagrant Foul points. During the game, he received a Flagrant Foul 1 in the fourth quarter, which pushed him over the threshold for suspension. He will serve his suspension on Wednesday when the Nets face the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The timing of this suspension is particularly unfortunate for the Nets, as they now face the challenge of defending against Oklahoma City’s formidable big-man duo of Chet Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein.
Claxton’s suspension comes after previous incidents that put him at risk of further punishment, including two ejections earlier this season for Flagrant Two fouls – one against the Orlando Magic’s Franz Wagner and another against the Atlanta Hawks’ Dyson Daniels. If Claxton continues to accumulate Flagrant fouls, he could face additional suspensions.
On the season, Claxton is averaging 10.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game. Over his last 10 games, he has been particularly impactful on defense, averaging 3.1 blocks per game.
