The Golden State Warriors are evaluating trade-market options to address rim protection as the 2025-26 season approaches its midpoint. With a 13-15 record, the front office is prioritizing interior defense and vertical spacing to stabilize lineups around its perimeter-heavy offense.
RealGM reported that NBA insider Chris Haynes identified three centers on Golden State’s target list. Haynes said the Warriors are focused on “trying to bring in a rim-running, block-shot defender” and are “really serious” about improving championship viability.
The names linked to the Warriors include Daniel Gafford of the Dallas Mavericks, Nic Claxton of the Brooklyn Nets, and Robert Williams III of the Portland Trail Blazers. All three fit the defensive profile Golden State has lacked consistently this season.
Golden State’s current roster leans heavily on offensive creation from Stephen Curry, who is averaging 28.8 points in 31.4 minutes. The team ranks light on shot-blocking outside of rotational bigs, with limited deterrence at the rim when Draymond Green is pulled away from the paint.
Gafford has emerged as a productive interior finisher in Dallas despite a reduced role. He is averaging 8.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in 21.9 minutes, providing vertical spacing alongside shot suppression without high usage demands.
Claxton remains Brooklyn’s defensive anchor and a high-mobility center capable of switching and protecting the basket. He is posting 13.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.4 blocks while shooting efficiently inside, a profile that aligns with Golden State’s read-and-react system.
Williams offers a different risk-reward calculation due to durability history, but his on-court impact remains clear. In limited minutes with Portland, he is averaging 1.5 blocks in 15.6 minutes while maintaining strong rebounding rates and defensive positioning.
