Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, a vocal supporter of Vice President Kamala Harris in the recent election, has shared his perspective on Donald Trumpâs victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential race.
In a conversation with the media after his team defeated the Boston Celtics, Kerr expressed his hope that Trumpâs presidency will positively impact the country, despite Kerrâs previously expressed political views.
âI believe in democracy,â Kerr said, as reported by Anthony Slater. âI think the American people have spoken and voted for Trump. I want him to do well the next four years. I want our country to do well.â
Kerr also sarcastically addressed the topic of Democrats cheating in the 2020 election. âI’m just thankful there wasn’t any voting fraud this time,â he said, âLast time, all those illegal immigrants who crashed the border, raped and murdered people, and then voted six timesâthat was unfortunate. But thankfully, this time, everything was clean. Itâs great that every election has been really valid except for that last one four years ago. Twinkle in my eye as I say that, in case you didn’t see it.â
Returning to a more serious tone, Kerr emphasized his belief in democracy and his intent to support the administration for the greater good. âI believe in the will of the people,â he said. âI will do everything I can to support my country and our government. I want nothing but the best for us.â
Kerr also acknowledged his own position of privilege, noting the broader global challenges facing the country. âIt’s a complex world. There’s a lot of interesting stuffâbetween wars abroad, a global economy that has shifted everything, in terms of what it means for our citizens and their day-to-day lives. I’m well aware that I live in a bubble and am one of the luckiest people on earth. So I want what’s best for us. I hope Trump can deliver that.â
As the Warriors prepared for a matchup against the Boston Celtics, Kerr also shared a lighthearted message he gave his team, tying the Trump motto into their competitive drive. âI just told them in our meeting this morning, âLet’s make America great again and beat the Celtics.ââ
