LeBron James’ recent social media post has sparked a backlash, with sports journalist Jason Whitlock calling out the NBA superstar over his stance on abortion.
Following a decisive victory for Donald Trump in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, James shared his concerns on Instagram, endorsing pro-choice stances aligned with Vice President Kamala Harris’ platform.
James posted a message addressing his daughter, writing, “HEAVY ON MY HEART & MIND THIS AM MY PRINCESS!! PROMISE TO PROTECT YOU WITH EVERYTHING I HAVE AND MORE!! WE DONT NEED THEIR HELP!” He included a photo of himself with his young daughter Zhuri.
Whitlock quickly responded to James’ post on Twitter, criticizing his position by suggesting it contradicts the essence of protecting his family.
“LeBron will do everything in his power to make sure his daughter can slaughter his grandchildren in the womb. #GirlDad,” Whitlock tweeted, raising questions about the relationship between supporting abortion rights and family protection.
James’ post came after Trump’s win against Harris, who had centered her campaign around abortion access. The vice president’s message, which included false warnings that Trump’s leadership could lead to federal abortion restrictions, seemed to resonate with James.
However, Trump has stated that he supports the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, allowing individual states to regulate abortion rather than implementing a nationwide ban.
The president-elect has made clear his view that states, not federal authorities, should decide on abortions, contrasting Harris’ campaign narrative that promoted fears of federal abortion prohibitions.
