Team USA is preparing to select a new head coach, with Miami Heat’s Erik Spoelstra and Los Angeles Clippers’ Tyronn Lue as the top candidates.
Steve Kerr is expected to step down following his tenure with the national team, which included coaching the Paris Olympics.
Marc Stein reported that Kerr will not continue in his role after his recent coaching stints with Team USA, including the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Kerr’s departure will follow his previous roles as an assistant under Gregg Popovich at the 2019 World Cup and the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
Both Spoelstra and Lue served as assistants under Kerr and are now in contention to lead the national team.
The selection process will focus on choosing between these two experienced coaches.
Spoelstra has built a successful career with the Miami Heat, demonstrating strong leadership and strategic acumen.
Lue, currently with the Los Angeles Clippers, has also showcased his coaching capabilities and adaptability in the NBA.
