Bradley Beal was able to control his destiny when the Wizards decided to rebuild the team. Because of the no-trade clause in his contract, the star guard was able to pick where he wanted to be traded.

According to NBA insider Shams Charania, Washington had better offers from the table as multiple teams wanted to get Beal, but the player picked Phoenix, forcing the Wizards to trade him there for Chris Paul, Landry Shamet, six second-round picks and two swaps.

“The only way this deal happens is because Bradley Beal has a no-trade clause,” Charania said on FanDuel TV. “That’s literally the only reason he wound up in Phoenix. Miami, Milwaukee, Sacramento there were other teams besides those I’m told that made bids, made offers.

“Washington, I’m told, had better offers on the table. But at the end of the day, Bradley Beal got to pick his choice picked where he wanted to go. Now you have Kevin Durant Devin Booker, Brad Beal, Deandre Ayton. They have $160 million committed into those four players. It’s gonna make roster building difficult, you’re gonna be limited just to minimum players. But this team is all-in on a championship, clearly.”

NBA players like Josh Hart and analysts alike were surprised with what the Wizards got in return for their star.
