Golden State Warriors guard Gary Payton II could be activated on Sunday against the Minnesota Timberwolves, per C.J. Holmes of The San Francisco Chronicle. He will participate in the team’s Saturday practice as this will determine if he’ll be able to suit up against the Wolves.

On Wednesday, head coach Steve Kerr expressed his optimism that Payton II could return some time before the regular season ends, as he continues his right adductor recovery.

Payton II, who left the team last offseason for the Portland Trail Blazers’ three-year deal worth $26.1MM, was acquired by the Warriors last trade deadline. He is yet to make his season debut for the Dubs.

In his ½ season for the Blazers, he averaged 4.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.1 steals in 15 games played.

His soon comeback can only bring positive outlook for Golden State as he served as a crucial element on their last year’s title rally.
