When Kyrie Irving requested a trade from the Nets last summer, the tea played hardball and he ended up staying in Brooklyn.

The two sides find themselves in that same situation again as the 30-year-old point guard again requested to be traded after rejecting the Nets’ contract extension offer.

This time it seems that Irving is willing to not give up on the request easily. According to sports analyst Stephen A. Smith, the 2016 NBA champion is prepared to sit out the rest of the season if his demands are not met.

“Kyrie Irving is prepared to sit out the rest of the season if need be – that’s what I’m being told. I don’t know whether I believe that, but that’s what people are saying,” Smith said on ESPN’s NBA Countdown.

This season Irving is averaging 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists in 37 minutes per game.
