The collegiate race to gain the oldest son of four-time NBA champion and future hall of famer LeBron James has now a reported frontrunner.
As written by Jamie Shaw of On3, the camp of Bronny James and the University of Oregon Men’s basketball team are keeping in touch for a potential pact, wherein there’s a “mutual interest” existing from both sides.
Pointed out by Shaw, one factor plays in this one is LeBron James’ close business connection with Nike co-founder Phil Knight, who is an alum of the said university.
LeBron James signed a lifetime deal with Nike toward the end of 2015. Oregon is Nike’s flagship program. Nike co-founder and chairman Phil Knight attended school in Eugene and remained very close to the program. James and Nike are reportedly business partners in other ventures as well.
Intel: Sources tell On3 that Oregon is actively recruiting James. The two parties have been in contact, and there is an active mutual interest.
It was already provided by ESPN’s Paul Biancardi that there’s an increasing expectation that Bronny will take the college route over professional stints like. Aside from Oregon, the likes of UCLA, USC, Ohio State and Michigan are on the radar in pursuit of the teenager.
The 17-year-old James Jr. has provided integral skills and talent as a six-foot-three guard. He is set to finish his senior year at Sierra Canyon in Los Angeles, and this certainly opens up tons of opportunities for him to pursue his basketball endeavors.
