Rajon Rondo is set to join the Los Angeles Lakers and is expected to sign his contract with the multiple time champions on Tuesday.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Rondo, who agreed to a buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies, will sign an one-year deal with the Lakers, worth a total of $2.6M.

After an early playoff exit last season, the Lakers revamped their roster, bringing in several veteran players in order to bolster their team.

The 2020 NBA champions added Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Trevor Ariza, Kent Bazemore, Wayne Ellington, Kendrick Nunn, Malik Monk and former NBA MVP Russell Westbrook.

Out of the aforementioned players, four of them (Howard, Ariza, Bazemore and Ellington) returned to the Lakers to help the franchise enter the title picture again.

For his part, Rondo will become the fifth former Lakers player to return to the squad this offseason. The veteran guard claimed the 2020 NBA championship with the Lakers.

In addition, the signings of Westbrook and Rondo mean the Lakers will have two of the best point guards of all time in their roster. Both players have revolutionized the game, just like fellow NBA legends Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas and Steve Nash did (to find out more about other top NBA point guards you can click here).

Overall, with Rondo, Westbrook and Anthony joining the team, the Lakers have already emerged as one of the top favorites to win the 2022 NBA championship.
