The Dallas Mavericks are trying to make it to the playoffs for the second season in a row. They are currently in the seventh place in the Western Conference which would put them in a play-in tournament. Luka Doncic is not in favor of such format change though.

“Obviously, we’re trying to get to the sixth seed,” the 22-year-old Mavs star said. “I don’t understand the idea of the play-in. You play 72 games to get in the playoffs, and then maybe you lose two in a row and you’re out of the playoffs. I don’t see the point of that.

“We’re just trying to get to the sixth spot and I think that’s our goal right now. Maybe even more than sixth spot.”

The play-in tournament will include teams with the 7th through 10th-highest winning percentages in each conference. The teams placed 7th and 8th at the end of the regular season will face each other in a single-game with the winner getting the 7th seed in the playoffs.

Meanwhile, the loser of this game will face the winner of a game between the 9th and 10th-placed regular season teams in a single game for the 8th seed in the playoffs.
