This season, the Philadelphia 76ers have emerged as one of the top two teams in the Eastern Conference and the entire league. After being overtaken by the Brooklyn Nets as the number one team in the East, the Sixers recently reclaimed the spot.
The team’s star Ben Simmons made a bold claim after Philadelphia defeated Dallas to stay atop the Eastern Conference. According to him, the Sixers are going for the Los Angeles Lakers this year.
“We’re going for the past champs, the Lakers,” Simmons said, per Rich Hofmann. “They were the ones who won a championship, so you got to give the respect to them. Obviously Brooklyn has a lot of talent. But at the end of the day, there’s only one ball and you gotta play defense too.”
