Steve Kerr, the head coach of the Golden State Warriors, talked about how he managed to coach Klay Thompson.

During his first season with the Warriors, Kerr found out he needed to take a different approach with coaching Thompson.

“My very first season, I lit into Klay. I took an early timeout, lit into Klay, and he didn’t respond very well. And he went out and was kind of rattled, made a couple mistakes.

Confused, Kerr solicited advice from folks around the eccentric guard, then in his fourth NBA season, and found that Thompson is more receptive to a different style of coaching.

I kind of checked that box. I said, ‘Klay’s not a guy who’s going to respond to yelling,'” Kerr said on the Runnin’ Plays Podcast, with Kerith Burke and Logan Murdock.
