The British Basketball League announced that they will postpone the remainder of the season until further notice due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The league made the decision by consulting with Basketball England, Basketball Scotland, Basketball Wales, BUCS and AoC Sport.
“Following the latest measures to combat Covid-19 as directed by the Government, the British Basketball League (BBL) has agreed a decision to postpone the 2019/20 season until further notice due to the on-going impact of these measures,” the statement said.
“The BBL is wholly owned by its member clubs who as a collective determine any decisions and they have agreed that it is in the best interests of the sport to see out the season and that this postponement offers the best chance to do so.”
Due to the uncertainty in the past week, many of the overseas players for the 11 clubs have already returned home.
The Women’s British Basketball League and National Basketball League – the latter run by Basketball England – have also been cancelled.
