Brooklyn Nets players called out head coach Kenny Atkinson in a team meeting days before his departure, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
As Charania reports, the meeting took place last Wednesday, with the players criticizing Atkinson and expressing a desire for him to identify their roles better and line up a clear hierarchy for the team.
For his part, Atkinson was feeling he was not on the same page with his players, so a change on the team’s bench would come sooner rather than later. Three days later (07/03), Atkinson mutually agreed to part ways with the Nets.
“It was a come-to-Jesus moment,” one source with knowledge of the meeting said. “It was an honest conversation where everyone tried to make things right.”
Brooklyn is at 29-34, six games ahead of the ninth-placed Washington Wizards.
