The British Basketball League (BBL) is delighted to welcome David Leyden Dunbar as Commercial Director with immediate effect.

The post will see David focusing all of his energy and expertise on three essential areas which will help to strengthen the BBL both as a business, and as a product.

These include selling sponsorship and developing commercial partnerships for the BBL, developing and implementing a TV and media strategy and also developing and implementing a marketing strategy.

David joins the BBL from London Scottish RFC and is excited at being handed the opportunity to shape and influence the future of the BBL.

He said, “I’m thrilled to be getting involved with the BBL at what is undoubtedly an exciting time for the league as we build on the momentum created by the Olympic Games this Summer.

“Coming from professional rugby, we could only dream of the youth participation numbers that basketball has already achieved and this was one of the primary factors that motivated my move.

“I feel with the BBL, the product is strong and commercial partners will very quickly grasp its’ potential through us taking the necessary steps to generate a greater profile for our marquee players, widening our broadcast appeal and building on what is a formidable foundation.

He added, “The British Basketball League has the figures to prove that as a sport, we penetrate demographics that other platforms struggle with and it’s my intention to play to these strengths.”

The appointment was fully endorsed by British Basketball League Chairman Paul Blake who can’t wait for the newest member of the BBL Executive Team to start making progress.

“This is a really exciting day for the BBL. We have all recognised a need to rebuild a full time commercial operation at league level, and now we are delighted to be in a position to do so, with an outstanding Executive. We are already seeing an increase in interest in the sport following the Olympics, and I am very confident that this appointment, linked to the continued improvement of club venues, will see a bright future for BBL” explained Blake.
