The Dallas Mavericks are in talks with the legendary Dirk Nowitzki for a jersey retirement ceremony this season.

The owner of the team, Mark Cuban, confirmed the news while speaking to the official website of the Mavericks prior to Tuesday’s game against the Golden State Warriors.

“Dirk and I are discussing it. We’re trying to figure it out. The challenge is just getting it all done just because it’s not a lot of home games left.

It’s only like (19) home games left, so that’s the hard part. So we’re discussing it now whether it’ll be now or one of the first couple of games next year,” Cuban told Mavs.com.

Nowitzki retired last spring after spending his entire 21-year career with the Mavs. He led Dallas to the 2011 NBA title.

By the time Nowitzki finished playing, he was a 14-time All-Star and the NBA’s sixth all-time leading scorer with 31,560 points.
