One of the major issues surrounding the NBA’s proposal reportedly concerns EuroLeague’s plans to change the structure of its competition.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, accepting the current proposal would require EuroLeague to maintain its existing structure rather than proceed with its planned expansion to 24 teams.

EuroLeague’s intended transition toward a franchise model would also reportedly have to be placed on hold under the NBA’s terms.

The proposal is said to be constructed around the competition’s current 13 shareholder clubs: Olimpia Milano, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Fenerbahce, Anadolu Efes, Panathinaikos, Olympiacos, Maccabi, Bayern, ASVEL, Baskonia, Zalgiris and CSKA.

CSKA remains suspended from EuroLeague competition but continues to be included among the shareholder clubs on which the reported NBA proposal is based.

Any alteration to the number of shareholders or their status would reportedly invalidate the current offer, creating a direct conflict with EuroLeague’s own plans for expansion and restructuring.
