It has been over three years since the Brooklyn Nets sent Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks.
A year after his arrival, the Mavericks are back on their feet and in the championship stage, thanks to the Luka Doncic-Irving tandem.
As setbacks happened, the veteran guard suffered a torn ACL last March 2025 that led him to sit out for the rest of the 2025-26 season.
The future remained uncertain as Irving still considered Dallas his home.
“I’m not gonna shy away from saying it’s been a little chaotic at times, inside the locker room as well as outside…I’m in love with this place just because of how welcoming it was, not just from the franchise aspect but also the fans, lot of support around the city…,” Irving said during media day.
Despite the rumors surrounding the 34-year-old, the expectations were at least that he just focus on pursuing what he can control.
“I wish a lot of that was under my control, but I think it’s a collaborative effort here…There is a disparity in age, everyone likes to make a big deal out of it…We’re trying to win. Nobody here is just trying to throw the season away and say we have no expectations. We have high expectations for ourselves…It’s a figuring out process,” he added.
The NBA champion is ready to start the season with the Mavericks under no physical restrictions.
