Spain edges Italy in a classic European derby; advances to the Quarter-finals

Spain defeated Italy in a late thriller (67-60) and qualified for the Quarter-finals of the Basketball World Cup.

It was a close game from start to finish, which was decided in the final minutes. The Italians were in front by four late in the fourth quarter (52-56), yet the Spaniards closed the match on a 15-4 run and earned the victory.

Juancho Hernangomez and Ricky Rubio led the winners in scoring, with 16 and 15 points, respectively.

On the other hand, Danilo Gallinari (15 points) and Luigi Datome (12 points) stood out for the losing squad.

Serbia and Spain are the two teams that secured their qualification for the quarter-finals from Group J (4-0 record). Their clash on Sunday (08/07) will determine who will finish on top of the group.
