Panathinaikos guard Nick Calathes once again starred in Friday’s win over Valencia with an MVP-calibre double-double of 17 points and 10 assists.

Calathes’ 15th double-double of the season, has led to team-mate Kenny Gabriel stating that the former Memphis Grizzlies star will claim this season’s MVP award.

“In my opinion yes, he is the MVP,” Gabriel said. “I’ve been saying it all year, that he is the best point guard in Europe, he makes this team go. He is a great guy, great all-around player.”

The win maintains Panathinaikos’ chances of fourth place, where they will succeed if they beat Olimpia Milano in the final round and Real Madrid loses its game against Brose Bamberg.

“I think we keep playing as a team, defensively, it starts from there and then at our home court, we like to run and were able to do it today,” Calathes said. “It is going to help us – we need one more game to go in Milan and then we will be ready for the playoffs.”
