The Golden State Warriors had a relatively quiet offseason, but adding Frank Vogel to Steve Kerr’s coaching staff could prove important.
Vogel brings extensive experience and a strong defensive background, including leading the Lakers to the 2020 NBA championship.
His arrival comes as Kerr looks to improve Golden State’s decision-making, fundamentals and defensive discipline.
The former Pacers coach built some of the NBA’s strongest defenses during his time in Indiana, helping the team reach consecutive Eastern Conference finals in 2013 and 2014.
Golden State could benefit from that experience after several disappointing seasons.
Since winning the 2022 championship, the Warriors have failed to advance beyond the second round and missed the playoffs twice.
With Stephen Curry and Draymond Green still leading the veteran core, the Warriors could also make roster changes before the trade deadline.
Vogel gives Kerr another experienced coach to help evaluate and address the team’s weaknesses.
After coaching Phoenix in 2023-24, Vogel spent last season as a Mavericks assistant. He now joins Kerr as Golden State attempts to get more out of its aging championship core.
