The Golden State Warriors have officially added Frank Vogel to Steve Kerr’s coaching staff, announcing Thursday that the veteran coach will serve as the team’s associate head coach.
Vogel joins Golden State after spending the previous two seasons with the Dallas Mavericks. He most recently worked as Dallas’ lead assistant coach during the 2025-26 season.
The 53-year-old brings 12 seasons of NBA head coaching experience to the Warriors. Vogel previously led the Indiana Pacers, Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns.
His longest tenure came in Indiana, where he coached from 2010 through 2016 and guided the Pacers to consecutive Eastern Conference Finals appearances in 2013 and 2014. Vogel later spent two seasons with Orlando before taking over the Lakers in 2019.
Vogel coached the Lakers from 2019 through 2022 and led the franchise to the 2020 NBA championship. He subsequently became head coach of the Phoenix Suns for the 2023-24 season before joining Dallas as an assistant.
His arrival gives Kerr another experienced NBA head coach on the staff as Golden State prepares for the 2026-27 season.
The Warriors are coming off a season in which Stephen Curry remained their leading scorer, averaging 26.6 points and 4.7 assists in 43 games. Brandin Podziemski played all 82 games and averaged 13.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists, while Draymond Green contributed 8.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists in 68 appearances.
Kristaps Porzingis averaged 16.1 points and 5.3 rebounds in 15 games last season, while Al Horford recorded 8.3 points and 4.9 rebounds in 45 appearances.
The Warriors retained several key veterans during the offseason, including Green, Porzingis and Horford, while also bringing back Gary Payton II and De’Anthony Melton on a two-year contract. Golden State selected Michigan forward Yaxel Lendeborg with the No. 11 pick in the draft, and he went on to win Summer League MVP.
The offseason also included the departure of Quinten Post, who signed a three-year, $26.1 million offer sheet with the Memphis Grizzlies that Golden State declined to match.
