Blake Griffin has named Michael Jordan as his choice for the greatest basketball player of all time, pointing to Jordan’s overall career as the primary reason for his selection.
“I think Michael Jordan is the GOAT because he had the best career of all time,” Griffin said on Boy Talk Talk Show, via HoopsHype.
Jordan’s career remains one of the most accomplished in NBA history. The Chicago Bulls legend won six NBA championships during his career, capturing all six Finals appearances and earning Finals MVP honors each time.
Jordan also won five regular-season MVP awards, 14 All-Star selections and 10 scoring titles. He was named to the All-NBA First Team 10 times and the NBA All-Defensive First Team nine times.
His individual production was matched by his longevity at the highest level. Jordan finished his 15-season NBA career averaging 30.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game, while shooting 49.7% from the field.
The former No. 3 overall pick also became a two-time Olympic gold medalist with the United States, winning gold at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and again as part of the iconic 1992 U.S. Olympic team.
Jordan’s six championships and five MVP awards are central to the case made for him in GOAT discussions, although the debate has increasingly included LeBron James as another leading candidate.
James has surpassed Jordan in several major statistical categories and has won four championships and four regular-season MVP awards. He has also reached the NBA Finals 10 times, while Jordan went 6-0 in the championship series.
Griffin, who entered the NBA as the No. 1 overall pick in 2009, played 13 seasons and became a six-time All-Star. His career included stops with the Los Angeles Clippers, Detroit Pistons, Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics.
The former All-NBA forward played in an era that overlapped with James’ career, but his choice reflects the continued influence of Jordan’s peak and championship résumé on the GOAT discussion.
