The Sacramento Kings are adding another experienced guard to their roster, reaching an agreement with veteran free agent Elfrid Payton.

Payton has agreed to a deal with Sacramento and will have an opportunity to compete for a roster spot during training camp, according to his representative, Darrell Comer of CSE Talent.

The move also reunites Payton with Kings general manager Scott Perry. The two previously crossed paths during Payton’s time with both the Orlando Magic and New York Knicks.

Payton brings considerable NBA experience to Sacramento as he prepares to continue a career that has already spanned nine seasons.

Over that stretch, the veteran point guard has averaged 9.8 points and 5.8 assists per game, giving the Kings another experienced option to evaluate ahead of the regular season.
