The Charlotte Hornets have agreed to a second 10-day contract with veteran guard Elfrid Payton, his agent Darrell Comer told HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.

Payton, 30, has played two games for Charlotte, averaging 2 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists in 27.5 minutes per contest. The Hornets sit 14th in the Eastern Conference with a 13-39 record.

Before joining Charlotte, Payton had a brief stint with the New Orleans Pelicans earlier this season. In nine total games between the two teams, he has posted averages of 5.7 points, 6.6 assists, and 3.2 rebounds in 22.1 minutes per game.

His path this season has been filled with roster moves. He initially signed with the Pelicans on October 11, 2024, but was waived five days later. After spending time with the Birmingham Squadron in the G League, he rejoined New Orleans on November 20 before being released again on December 3.

Payton returned to Birmingham before getting another NBA opportunity with Charlotte on February 7, 2025, when he signed his first 10-day deal. His latest agreement gives him additional time to prove his value in a Hornets backcourt that has dealt with injuries and inconsistency.
