Eurobasket Women holders Serbia are still looking for their first win at the Rio Games and have a good chance as they face China and the United States can book their place in the quarter-finals with a tough contest against Canada.

SERBIA GRAB FIRST RIO WIN BY BEATING CHINA

Serbia took an early double-digit lead and eventually secured their first win at the Rio Olympics with an 80-72 success over China.

Ana Dabovic paced Serbia with 23 points and Sonja Petrovic added 20 points, eight rebounds and six assists as they enjoyed a double-digit lead early on and despite China’s resistance in the second, Serbia pulled clear in the third and as a result, improved to 1-3; the same record as China.

USA SECURE TOP SPOT IN GROUP B, BEATS CANADA

USA remain unbeaten and inflicted a first loss on Canada by beating their neighbours 81-51 in the second game of the day.

A closely-contested first quarter was blown wide open in the next frame as Maya Moore scored eight points in the period, including a lay-up that pushed the USA’s advantage to 30-19 with 2:10 to go in the half and it was a 36-22 game as the teams headed to the locker rooms. Canada couldn’t get any closer from there.

Moore and Diana Taurasi each had 12 points to pace the Americans.

SPAIN ROUT HELPLESS SENEGAL

Spain started strong and never looked back in their 97-43 rout of Senegal in the final game of the day in Rio.

The European powerhouse raced out to an early 26-11 lead and extended it further to 46-19 at the half and from there, the game was over as a contest.

Astou Ndour led Spain with 18 points and she collected 12 rebounds for a strong double-double.
