Andrew Bogut surprised many by returning to action much quicker than expected at the Rio Olympics following the injury he sustained playing in last season’s NBA Finals but the doubts regarding how he would play at the summer games were proved wrong as he had a strong tournament.
He nearly helped the Boomers to a first ever podium finish at the Olympics but were edged out, somewhat controversially by Spain in the bronze medal game.
Patty Mills was adjudged to have fouled Spain’s Sergio Rodriguez with 5.4 seconds remaining but replays showed that there was hardly any contact at all and that the new Philadelphia 76ers guard dramatically faked the foul. The Spaniard subsequently drained the foul shots to give Spain the win.
But upon returning home to Australia today, Bogut, who joined the Dallas Mavericks before the Olympics began took to Twitter to voice his views.
Great to be back in OZ! I want to thank all of Australia for the outstanding amount of support throughout the Olympics #boomers #rio2016

Our finish to the tournament is still hard to live with. Thats tournament basketball. I needed to lift at a crucial time and didn't.
