According to Shams Charania, the Milwaukee Bucks guards Ryan Rollins and Kevin Porter Jr. drew criticism from the coaching staff following a March 1 blowout loss to Chicago, where they combined to shoot 9-of-27 from the field.
Coaches urged both players to shift their approach, emphasizing better ball movement and discouraging overly individual play.
Although the message was intended to “empower” the young guards, it had the opposite effect within the locker room.
The situation contributed to a sense of division among players and led to a players-only meeting.
During that meeting, veteran forward Kyle Kuzma reportedly reassured Rollins and Porter, telling them to ignore the coaches’ remarks.
Once the coaching staff became aware of Kuzma’s comments, he was held out of the next game, receiving his first DNP-CD of the season.
He later met with head coach Doc Rivers to address and resolve the situation, Charania reports.
