The Detroit Pistons are promoting two-way player Tolu Smith to their 15-man roster on a new two-year standard contract, according to his agent Corey Marcum via ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Smith, who went undrafted out of Mississippi State in 2024, signed a two-way deal with Detroit in January 2025.
He has appeared in 13 NBA games this season after playing just once last year, including a recent outing with eight points and three rebounds in 13 minutes against Orlando.
He has been far more productive in the G League, averaging 19.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.5 blocks in 26 games for the Motor City Cruise.
Moving him to a standard contract makes Smith eligible for the postseason and gives Detroit additional frontcourt depth.
The Pistons currently have a full roster, so a player will need to be waived.
Bobi Klintman could be a candidate, as he has seen limited playing time and does not have guaranteed money beyond the 2025–26 season.
