Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 47 points to lead the Oklahoma City Thunder past the Detroit Pistons 114-110 in overtime on Monday at Paycom Center.
Gilgeous-Alexander made 12 of 19 shots and 21 of 25 free throws, extending his NBA record to 136 consecutive games with at least 20 points.
The Thunder became the first team to reach 60 wins this season and the first in franchise history to do so in consecutive years, improving to 60-16 and maintaining a two-game lead over the Spurs in the Western Conference.
Detroit, missing four of five regular starters, kept the game competitive. Paul Reed posted 21 points and 10 rebounds, Javonte Green added 19, and Kevin Huerter contributed 17.
Oklahoma City held a 79-74 lead entering the fourth quarter, but the Pistons surged late. Daniss Jenkins’ 3-pointer gave Detroit a 97-90 edge with under four minutes remaining.
Gilgeous-Alexander responded with six straight points to cut the deficit to 97-96, and Jaylin Williams tied the game with a corner 3-pointer after missing his first five shots.
Detroit had a chance to win in regulation with the score tied at 101, but Gilgeous-Alexander stole the ball in the closing seconds. Jenkins missed a deep 3-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime.
In the extra period, Gilgeous-Alexander scored eight of the Thunder’s 13 points, securing the victory. Oklahoma City shot 47 percent overall and 88 percent from the free-throw line.
Chet Holmgren added 13 points and nine rebounds, while Luguentz Dort and Ajay Mitchell chipped in nine and 14 points, respectively. The Thunder’s balanced attack helped overcome Detroit’s resistance despite key absences.
The Pistons remain atop the Eastern Conference at 54-21 but have now lost consecutive games. Injuries to Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duren, Tobias Harris, Duncan Robinson, and Isaiah Stewart limited Detroit’s rotation.
Oklahoma City hosts the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday, while Detroit returns home to face the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday.
