Dwight Howard and his wife, Amber Howard, were preparing for a large second wedding celebration in India before their split, TMZ has learned.
Sources told TMZ the couple had been actively planning an elaborate overseas ceremony, though the exact location and date had not been finalized.
The event was meant to be far more traditional and extravagant than their Las Vegas wedding last year, allowing friends and family to join a bigger celebration.
TMZ previously reported that Dwight filed for divorce Monday, calling the marriage “irretrievably broken” and requesting exclusive use of his Georgia mansion.
Sources say Amber, also known as Amy Luciani, attempted to file the same day with her attorney, but Dwight’s paperwork was processed first.
Police were also called to the home three times in two weeks for a suicide threat, a domestic incident, and a theft report.
Despite the dueling divorce filings, the pair are still living together for now.
The split came shortly after Amber posted unverified claims on social media involving child protective services and Dwight.
Attempts to reach his representatives have not yet been returned.
