An MRI has revealed that Orlando Magic guard Anthony Black is dealing with a left lateral abdominal muscle strain, the team announced. His return date will depend on how he responds to treatment.
Black exited Saturday’s game in Minnesota after playing only two minutes. The injury was initially described as a low back strain, and he did not suit up for Sunday’s matchup in Milwaukee.
The issue occurred after he was fouled by Jaden McDaniels on a drive to the basket, grabbing at his back before eventually heading to the locker room for further evaluation, according to Jason Beede of The Orlando Sentinel.
Beede notes that Black has put himself in the conversation for Most Improved Player honors, averaging career highs of 15.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.4 steals in his third NBA season.
The Magic also provided an update on Franz Wagner, stating he is progressing in his recovery from a high ankle sprain. His return will hinge on how the ankle responds to rehabilitation.
Wagner has appeared in just 28 games this season and has played only twice since January 18.
