As the Miami Heat prepare for a road matchup against Milwaukee on Tuesday, Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald provided an update on where Miami’s long-standing interest in Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo currently stands.
Trade discussions involving Antetokounmpo were effectively paused after the deadline passed without an agreement, but the possibility of renewed talks remains a storyline to watch heading into the offseason.
According to Jackson, Miami could assemble a significant trade package this summer, potentially offering as many as four first-round draft picks in an attempt to acquire the former MVP.
That level of draft capital would give the Heat flexibility if Milwaukee becomes open to negotiations again.
However, several uncertainties remain. It is unclear whether the Bucks will seriously entertain trade discussions or if Antetokounmpo himself will prefer to remain in Milwaukee long term.
Additionally, other teams around the league could present stronger or more appealing offers, which might limit Miami’s chances of reentering meaningful negotiations.
Antetokounmpo has played 13 seasons for the Bucks. He has averaged 24.0 points, 9.9 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 889 regular-season games. He was selected to play in 9 All-Star games.
