Jahmir Young, currently on a two-way contract with the Miami Heat, may not be among the younger players expected to receive consistent NBA minutes during the second half of the season, having appeared for only 44 total minutes across eight games at the NBA level so far.
However, as Ira Winderman of The South Florida Sun Sentinel (subscription required) reports, Young has surpassed internal expectations thanks to his outstanding play with the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the G League, where he is averaging 26.2 points, 8.9 assists, and 5.3 rebounds in 22 appearances.
“Jahmir has been one of the better surprises of the season,” head coach Erik Spoelstra said. “He’s been playing simply fantastic basketball in Sioux Falls. And then whenever we have an opportunity to see him, he’s just a handful because he’s going full speed.
“… Our guys are always telling him (in practice), ‘Hey, dial it back a little bit,’ and we’re always telling him, ‘No, be who you are. Be a total nightmare to guard.’”
Young has played 2 seasons for the Heat and Bulls. He has averaged 2.0 points in 14 regular-season games.
