The NBA’s All-Star Game has faced criticism in recent seasons for lacking competitiveness and intensity, but San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama believes this year’s event can deliver a different experience, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
During media sessions ahead of the game, Wembanyama explained the mindset he plans to bring to Sunday’s matchup and how he hopes to influence the overall energy on the court.
“Exclamation-point plays, playing in a solid manner and sharing the ball with energy,” the big man said. “If you share that energy, people feel like they have a responsibility to share it back to you.”
This marks Wembanyama’s second consecutive All-Star selection, and he will represent the World team under the league’s newly introduced game format.
The event will feature a round-robin structure consisting of four 12-minute games, with the two best teams advancing to a final matchup.
The NBA has experimented with multiple All-Star formats in recent years, making this the fourth different setup in four seasons, but Wembanyama expressed confidence that the latest version will work well.
