Players on the Chicago Bulls understand that the roster has been put together unusually and may not represent a long-term foundation, but that reality has also created a unique challenge that some players find motivating, according to The Athletic’s Joel Lorenzi.
Guard Anfernee Simons acknowledged the adjustment period the team is currently experiencing as it works to build chemistry with so many new contributors.
“This not a normal situation,” Simons said earlier in the week, shaking his head. “Seven new guys, six of them are playing heavy minutes and we have to just learn on the fly like that. It’s just gonna take tons of communication. Experience.
“Just going through it together with mistakes and everything … Obviously, we want to win. That’s the end goal. Right now is the time that we learn each other and learn from our mistakes and just try to build something from there.”
With Simons, the intensely competitive Collin Sexton, and Jaden Ivey all playing in contract years, Chicago’s revamped backcourt features several guards who have strong personal motivation to perform well over the remainder of the season.
While the team may struggle in the standings, the effort level is not expected to be an issue as players look to prove themselves and grow together despite the challenging circumstances.
