The Toronto Raptors have reached an agreement to bring in Chris Paul from the Los Angeles Clippers as part of a three-team deal that also involves the Brooklyn Nets.
Under the terms of the trade, Brooklyn will receive Ochai Agbaji, a 2032 second-round pick, and cash considerations. Paul is not expected to report to Toronto and may be moved again before the trade deadline.
Paul had been away from the Clippers since early December after it became evident he was no longer part of the team’s plans.
In November, Paul stated that he intends to retire following the 2025-26 season, though he has continued training with the goal of returning to game action.
From a financial standpoint, the Clippers open up a roster spot and reduce their luxury-tax bill by approximately $7 million.
Toronto also benefits financially, as moving Agbaji into Brooklyn’s cap space allows the Raptors to slip below the luxury-tax threshold.
