The Memphis Grizzlies now face a decision on the future of Christian Koloko after his second 10-day contract expired, according to Keith Smith.
If Memphis wants to retain the player for the remainder of the season, the team would need to convert him to a standard NBA deal.
Koloko saw meaningful opportunities during his short stint, appearing in 11 games and earning two starts. In those minutes, he averaged 2.6 points and 4.0 rebounds while playing just under 18 minutes per night.
His role fluctuated, but his defensive presence and rebounding provided situational value as the Grizzlies continue navigating roster uncertainty.
At the same time, a much younger option is beginning to carve out trust late in games.
Rookie Cedric Coward has quickly earned praise for his poise in pressure moments, an uncommon trait for a first-year player.
Head coach Tuomas Iisalo highlighted Coward’s composure and decision-making, noting that despite coming straight from college, he has shown an advanced feel for timing and spacing.
“(Coward) is a first-year player coming out of college, but is picking his spots,” Iisalo said.
He pointed to the shooting guard’s ability to make fast, simple reads, explaining that his effectiveness often comes from quick decisions off the catch rather than forcing plays.
Iisalo also emphasized how Coward contributed to stretches of strong offensive flow, praising the ball movement and his willingness to find open teammates.
