The Hawks have waived center Malik Williams from his two-way contract, the team announced, with the move coming before the league-wide salary guarantee date.
As a result, Williams will receive only a prorated portion of his two-way salary.
Williams started the season with Atlanta’s G League affiliate, the College Park Skyhawks, and was promoted to a two-way deal last month after season-ending injuries to Jacob Toppin and Eli Ndiaye.
Despite the promotion, the 27-year-old remained mostly in the G League and was active for just three games with Atlanta without seeing the floor.
If he clears waivers without signing elsewhere, Williams is expected to return to College Park, which still holds his G League rights, according to Lauren Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
He has been productive at the NBAGL level, averaging 16.9 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks in 19 games, though his efficiency has dipped as he has increased his three-point volume.
With Williams waived, Atlanta now has an open two-way slot alongside Caleb Houstan and RayJ Dennis, who is on a two-year two-way contract.
