The Miami Heat have agreed to a deal with Malik Williams, according to NBA insider Michael Scotto.
The Heat have added the versatile big man, who spent part of last season with the Toronto Raptors after being called up from the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the G League.
Williams went undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft but began his professional career overseas, signing with Anwil Wloclawek in Poland on January of 2023. However, his time there was brief as he transitioned back to the G League later that year.
On October 30, 2023, Williams joined the Sioux Falls Skyforce, the Heat’s G League affiliate, but was waived after only eight days.
His persistence paid off when, on April 3, 2024, Williams signed a 10-day contract with the Raptors. He impressed enough during that short stint to earn a spot for the remainder of the season.
During his time with the Raptors, Williams appeared in seven games. He averaged 2.7 points and 5.4 rebounds while playing 15.2 minutes per game.
At 6-foot-11, Williams offers shot-blocking potential and has shown flashes of being a solid rebounder, making him an intriguing addition to the Heat roster.
The Heat have historically developed talent from the G League, and they could look to do the same with Williams, who brings a high motor and defensive upside to the team.
