Former Cavaliers guard Daniel Gibson was arrested during a routine traffic stop after police discovered an outstanding warrant tied to a 2022 speeding ticket.

According to bodycam footage, Gibson was pulled over in Beachwood, Ohio, after officers noticed he was driving with his taillights off. He explained he thought the lights were on “auto,” and the officer initially let the mistake slide.

However, once his California license was checked, an active warrant appeared. The officer informed Gibson he had to take him into custody for extradition to the Ohio State Patrol.

Gibson expressed frustration, insisting he believed his attorney had handled the issue and saying he typically received different treatment “because of all the things I’ve done in the community.”

He continued voicing disappointment, explaining how past interactions ended differently.

“Every time I’ve ever been arrested out here, or pulled over, every officer has allowed me to go home and handle the stuff from home,” adding that he had been “just hanging out with the mayor earlier in the night.”

Feeling overlooked, he said, “So, the fact that I don’t get no consideration for everything I do out here just tells me, like, why am I doing it? It just makes no sense to me …”

Despite the complaints, the officer said the situation was out of his control. Gibson later resolved the old ticket by paying the fine.

The longtime Cavalier, who averaged 7.8 points across seven seasons and remained involved in youth programs post-retirement, will now move past the incident.
