NBA star Anthony Davis revealed that he used to regularly defeat LeBron James in Madden NFL before his former Los Angeles Lakers teammate became determined to improve his skills.
Davis explained that he spent considerable time playing the popular football video game and initially had a clear advantage over James in their head-to-head matchups.
AD: “I used to play Madden, like, a lot.”
Host: “Better than Bron? Like, one-on-one Madden?”
Davis confirmed that he consistently beat James, eventually motivating the four-time NBA champion to take the game much more seriously.
AD: “Yeah. Cooking him. Cooked. And it made him to the point where he like, ‘I’m locking back in.’”
According to Davis, James became increasingly dedicated to Madden after their time together in the NBA bubble, developing into a highly competitive player.
“And when I say he locked back in, from that time in the bubble to right now, I think he’s maybe top thousand in the world now.”
The host expressed surprise at how much James had improved.
Host: “No way.”
Davis then shared an example of James’ progress, recalling that his former teammate had reportedly defeated a player ranked among the best in the world.
AD: “I know during, like, late in the season, he told us he beat the 164th best player in the world, I think, if I’m not mistaken. But he’ll play 15 games a day, 20…”
