Knicks guard Josh Hart had $185,000 worth of watches and jewelry stolen from his room at The Dominick Hotel in SoHo earlier this year, according to The New York Post.
Police and sources said Hart dropped off his duffle bag around 12:30 p.m. on September 5, and when he returned about an hour later, the watch case inside it was gone.
The case held three watches and a bracelet worth a combined $185,000. Hart reported the theft on September 8. No arrests have been made, and no suspect description has been released.
Hart, 30, joined the Knicks in 2023 and set the franchise record for triple-doubles last season.
Guests interviewed by the Post had mixed reactions. Rob Saunders, 46, from London, was surprised.
“I’m surprised that I didn’t hear about it – I’m a huge NBA fan,” he said.
He added that despite the incident, he felt safe during his stay and planned to return.
“I mean, I’m from London … there’s always going to be a little bit of crime here and there,” he said.
Another guest, Sarah Sellam, 30, from Paris, reacted differently.
“Honestly, I’m not that surprised about the robbery,” she said. “Honestly, I didn’t like the hotel … I don’t think I’m ever going to come back.”
The Dominick, a 46-story luxury hotel with sweeping Manhattan views, is the city’s only independent property with a Five Diamond AAA rating.
It is expected to be rebranded as Delano SoHo New York after being bought for $175 million by Cain.
The theft occurred one day after an 87-year-old man fought off two people attempting to steal his $48,000 Rolex outside a Gramercy Park senior center, police said.
