The Dallas Mavericks may be preparing for a mid-season front office shakeup, according to Tim MacMahon on The Hoop Collective podcast. MacMahon stated the trust between owner Patrick Dumont and GM Nico Harrison has “completely disintegrated.”
Sources suggest Dumont is now personally approving Anthony Davis’ return from injury, bypassing Harrison’s input. An internal disagreement arose when Davis wanted to play in Washington on Saturday, further highlighting the split.
MacMahon indicated there is a “very, very strong likelihood” that Harrison will be fired before the season concludes, calling it “a matter of when, not if.”
Harrison’s tenure has been turbulent since orchestrating the February trade of Luka Doncic to the Lakers. The move drew overwhelming backlash from fans and media, with “Fire Nico” chants appearing at games, public events, and on social media.
The Mavericks struggled following the trade, suffering injuries to key players like Kyrie Irving, Dereck Lively II, and Daniel Gafford. Mismanagement of load and training schedules was widely criticized as contributing to the team’s decline.
Harrison defended the Doncic trade, citing a focus on defense and praising Anthony Davis as a cornerstone for the team’s new culture. Yet the decision has left him widely unpopular in Dallas, with fans calling him “the most hated man” in the city.
The Mavericks have had a rough start to the 2025–26 season, posting a 3–7 record through their first 10 games. Home struggles and a 1–3 road record have amplified calls for change in the front office.
Key players like Davis, Cooper Flagg, and D’Angelo Russell have produced solid individual performances, but team cohesion has suffered amid injuries and inconsistent play. Fans continue to express frustration over the team’s direction and management decisions.
