Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr addressed his team’s 114-109 road loss to the Indiana Pacers on Saturday night, calling it a game where “everything went wrong.” Kerr said the Warriors failed to execute on both ends, noting turnovers, fouls, and missed opportunities as key factors.
Kerr highlighted that Stephen Curry had a rough night, finishing with 23 points and five turnovers. “It just wasn’t Steph’s night,” Kerr said. “He just wasn’t himself, and it was a tough night.”
Despite the struggles of his star player, Kerr praised the young Warriors for keeping the team competitive. “Our young guys played their ass off,” he said, referencing the efforts of Gui Santos, Moses Moody, and Brandin Podziemski, who helped Golden State build an 11-point lead.
The coach identified defensive breakdowns as a major factor in the loss, pointing to Indiana’s offensive boards and second-chance points. “They got 11 offensive boards and 15 second-chance points, plus 28 free throws—too many,” Kerr explained.
Kerr acknowledged the challenge of maintaining focus early in the season. “The schedule’s tough, seven games in 12 nights, but we have to find a way to execute even when not at our best,” he said.
The Warriors had led 88-82 entering the fourth quarter but could not close out the game. Indiana’s Quenton Jackson scored 12 of his 25 points in the final period, while Pascal Siakam and Aaron Nesmith combined for 58 points to fuel the Pacers’ comeback.
Despite the loss, Kerr emphasized areas of progress. “Offensive boards, cutting, and knocks down a three—this is why Gui is so important,” he said, noting how bench players lifted the team’s energy.
Looking ahead, Kerr plans to regroup the Warriors during their upcoming practice day. “We’ll work on some things Monday before the next back-to-back,” he said. “We have to be sharper and better, and there will be some tough nights.”
The Warriors, now 4-3 on the season, will return home to face the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Indiana improved to 1-5 with its first win of the year and will host the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday.
