The Indiana Pacers announced on Friday that forward Obi Toppin will undergo surgery to repair a partial stress fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot.
The procedure is scheduled for Monday, and the team expects him to be sidelined for at least the next three months.
Head coach Rick Carlisle addressed the situation following the announcement, emphasizing the long recovery timeline.
“Probably not recommend talking about this again until probably Feb. 1, [in] three months,” Carlisle said, suggesting the team does not anticipate an update until around that time.
The player sustained the injury during last Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, exiting after playing just 17 minutes.
The setback is a tough blow for both Toppin and the Pacers, as the 27-year-old had been a key part of Indiana’s frontcourt rotation.
Toppin has played 6 seasons for the Pacers and Knicks. He has averaged 8.5 points and 3.4 rebounds in 365 regular-season games.
