The Indiana Pacers officially signed guard Delon Wright to a training camp contract on Saturday, waiving Samson Johnson in a corresponding roster move. The decision addresses the team’s need for backcourt depth following Monte Morris’ calf injury, which prevented him from joining the roster.
Wright, 33, brings a decade of NBA experience across multiple franchises, including Toronto, Memphis, Dallas, Detroit, Sacramento, Atlanta, Washington, Miami, Milwaukee, and New York. He most recently played for the Knicks in 2025 after a midseason trade from the Bucks, where he contributed to Milwaukee’s 2024 NBA Cup run.
Over his career, Wright has averaged 6.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game in 548 regular-season contests. Known for defensive versatility, playmaking, and high basketball IQ, he provides a reliable option for both point and wing guard rotations.
Indiana’s backcourt has been heavily impacted by Tyrese Haliburton’s season-ending Achilles injury. Wright’s presence is expected to stabilize the lineup while allowing younger players, such as rookies Kam Jones and Taelon Peter, to gain experience without being overexposed.
The Pacers also face scoring challenges after Myles Turner’s departure to Milwaukee. Wright’s steady play complements key contributors Bennedict Mathurin and Pascal Siakam, giving Indiana a reliable voice and floor general in high-pressure situations.
Samson Johnson, waived to make room for Wright, averaged 7.5 points and 3.5 rebounds over 34 games for UConn last season. The move signals the Pacers’ focus on veteran leadership to navigate injuries and roster adjustments.
