Marc Stein reported on The Stein Line on Friday, June 12, that the New Orleans Pelicans have not actively placed Trey Murphy III on the market, but the franchise is now “willing to field offers” under its new front office leadership led by Joe Dumars.
Stein added that multiple teams have signaled interest in the 25-year-old wing, with Indiana and Detroit among those engaged in inquiries. One league source described New Orleans’ stance as valuing a significant return for consideration.
Murphy completed the 2025-26 regular season with 21.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists across 66 games, all starts. He shot 47.0% from the field and 37.9% from three-point range on 8.6 attempts per game, ranking among the league’s higher-volume perimeter shooters.
He also averaged 3.2 made threes per game and converted 88.6% of his free throws, indicating consistent efficiency from long range and the line.
Murphy is under contract for three additional seasons on a four-year, $112 million deal, giving any acquiring team multi-year control. That contract structure places him among the more stable mid-prime wing scorers available in trade discussions, with production tied to a 35.5-minute workload across a full starter’s role in New Orleans’ rotation.
Detroit enters the discussion after finishing 60-22 and securing the Eastern Conference’s top seed. Cade Cunningham averaged 23.9 points and 9.9 assists, while Jalen Duren produced 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds on 65.0% shooting. Duncan Robinson added 12.2 points while shooting 41.0% from three on 7.0 attempts per game, and Ausar Thompson contributed 2.0 steals and 0.9 blocks in 26.0 minutes per game.
Indiana finished 19-63 and outside postseason contention, with Pascal Siakam leading at 24.0 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Andrew Nembhard posted 16.9 points and 7.7 assists across 57 games. Aaron Nesmith added 13.8 points with a 37.9% mark from three on 6.2 attempts per game.
