The Denver Nuggets have officially agreed to sign free agent Javante McCoy, Chris Haynes reports via Twitter. While the specific terms of the deal haven’t been made public, it’s widely expected to be an Exhibit 10 training camp contract, which allows flexibility for both the player and team.
McCoy, a 27-year-old shooting guard who played five seasons at Boston University, finished his college career averaging 17.4 points and 2.9 assists per game in his final season, while shooting an impressive 42.5% from three-point range.
Known for his scoring ability and athleticism, McCoy has been regarded as a versatile wing capable of contributing in multiple areas on the floor.
During the 2024-25 season, McCoy played for the Motor City Cruise, the Detroit Pistons’ G League affiliate, posting averages of 12.9 points and 2.3 assists per game on .552/.451/.889 shooting.
He has also had previous stints with the Austin Spurs and South Bay Lakers, giving him valuable professional experience and exposure to NBA-style systems.
With McCoy added to the roster, the Nuggets now have 20 of their 21 training camp spots filled.
As Haynes points out, the Exhibit 10 contract structure provides a potential $85,300 bonus if McCoy is waived and subsequently spends at least 60 days with the Nuggets’ G League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Gold.
This arrangement allows Denver to retain its rights while allowing McCoy to continue developing and potentially earn a standard NBA roster spot.
Nuggets head coach and front office officials have emphasized that McCoy’s signing aligns with their goal of strengthening backcourt depth and adding versatile wings capable of contributing on both ends, particularly as the team navigates the challenges of the upcoming 2025-26 season.
